Basic Services

The Greenwich Township Emergency Squad provides basic life support services to Greenwich Township and the surrounding communities as needed. Because we are a non-profit volunteer organization, there is no bill for services; however, certain types of emergencies require advanced life support services. These services are provided by a mobile hospital based paramedic unit. This unit does bill for this service. In the event a helicopter is needed, you will be billed for these services also. Following state and local protocols, transports to hospitals are based on the nearest medically appropriate facility. For example, most medical emergencies and injuries are transported to Warren Hospital or Easton Hospital. Other severe emergencies such as major burns, and, or trauma for example, may be transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital or St. Luke's Hospital.

South Regional Rescue Task Force

In 2005 National standards for patients entrapped in motor vehicle accidents were upgraded. They were looking to have patients removed from vehicles within 15 to 20 minute time frame. Our average was 30+ minutes. The cost of equipment was rising. Clearly change was needed. We began to speak with neighboring rescue squads. It was agreed upon to share services and form a task force. The following rescue squads joined the task force team: Bloomsbury, Franklin, Greenwich, and Phillipsburg. These squads are simultaneously dispatched for the following calls: MVAs involving entrapment, ejection, rollovers, large trucks, serious injuries and unknown rescues. Formally, when an incident occurred, a rescue squad would arrive on the scene and call for other squads. Now they are dispatched simultaneously, and the EMS officer in charge calls off units they do not need. This, along with frequent drilling together, has allowed us to reach national standards and hold down cost. By drilling together, we know each others' equipment and are able to use the best equipment from each squad. In the future, we are looking to expand into other forms of rescue; such as a climbing team, {currently the nearest team is 30 minutes away}.
